Home networking is closely becoming a necessity. The average home has multiple computers, but what really fuels the need for sharing resources is that many media devices (gaming consoles, blu-ray players, tvs, etc) are acquiring IP addresses which allow them to connect with other devices. Think of these devices as essentially becoming computers. With a networked home a family of four can share an Internet connection, files, media, printer, and other things. Don’t worry about arguing over whose turn it is to use X device, because everyone can use it!
